In 1999, a group of design consultants, led by Ralph Whitehead Associates, were selected to develop a vision plan and final plans for the 2.5-mile trolley corridor for the City of Charlotte. In association with LandDesign, Neighboring Concepts was responsible for design of the trolley shelters at the stations along the 2.5-mile corridor. Each station and shelter was designed in collaboration with the community to reflect the character of the neighborhoods adjacent to the corridor. Construction of the trolley corridor was completed in 2004. Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) now operates several vintage trolley cars and replica cars 7 days per week along the corridor.
