Designed in association with Gensler, the NE Community Resource Center will be Mecklenburg County’s first stand-alone facility of this type. Building upon the social sustainability promoted through its function, the building itself will be a county model for sustainability. The three-story, 110,000 square foot building is being designed as ‘Net-Zero Ready’, so that through the addition of a future solar panel array, the highly energy-efficient, daylit building will be powered by all zero-carbon energy sources. Current sustainable features include a high-performance building envelope, a daylit interior, solar shading, a geothermal well field, and building performance monitoring, providing users and operators continuous feedback on their energy choices.
