Neighboring Concepts provided programming, master-planning, and architectural and interior design services for the renovation of the CN Jenkins Presbyterian Church. Through observation of the CN Jenkins congregation, a visible passion for living life with one another is evident. It is from this call to discipleship that the forms of the new CN Jenkins Church has its roots. Beginning with three distinct program elements (family life, sanctuary, and child development), three forms begin to take shape on the site. The sanctuary and child development center are placed along the public face of the site seeking to attract the “unchurched” and provide a welcoming sense to the community. The family life center is located within the site, serving as a way to “engage” and serve the congregation and community alike. All 3 masses are located with a desire to attract people of all walks of life, drawing them into the family of CN Jenkins.
Once placed on the site these 3 masses serve distinct roles in the church mission, but maintain an important relationship with each other. As one enters the building, the interstitial public space connects all 3 program elements holistically, weaving the 3 “strands” together in strength.
