Neighboring Concepts, in association with Parsons-Brinkeroff Quade and Douglas, completed a study of the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) potential for several proposed station areas in the cities of Gastonia and Mt. Holly, North Carolina. This study was part of an extension plan for a future Charlotte West Corridor Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line. The land for the proposed TOD currently occupies three underutilized commercial areas. The master plans advise community-centered public areas that feature open vicinities, multi-modal transit centers and open town squares, all resulting in creating varied and interconnected urban focal points for the developments. The plans specify recommendations for streetscape enhancement, stream and waterfront restoration, suggestions for a diverse range of building sizes and uses, and describe the potential of a new network of streets and sidewalks.
