Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center

430 Stitt Rd, Charlotte, NC 28213, USA

Community

The Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center will be Mecklenburg County’s first stand alone facility of this type.

Building upon the social sustainability promoted through its function, Neighboring Concepts supported Gensler to design a new County model for sustainability. The three story, 110,000 square foot building is being designed as ‘Net-Zero Ready’, so that through the addition of a future solar panel array, the highly energy efficient, day-lit building will be powered by all zero carbon energy sources. Current sustainable features include a high performance building envelope, a day-lit interior, solar shading, a geothermal well field and building performance monitoring, providing users and operators continuous feedback on their energy choices.

The CRC will house County health and human services at a single location. Spaces within the building may contain lobby/reception, service counters, waiting areas, vending café, interview rooms, non-clinical exam rooms, minor lab space, cashier area, document scanning/drop-off areas, supervised visitation rooms, computer rooms, conference rooms, open workspace for staff, enclosed offices, break rooms, copy/workrooms, space for local partners, and typical building amenities.
