Romare Bearden Park

Urban Planning & Design
Neighboring Concepts, in association with LandDesign, completed the design for Romare Bearden Park. Named after the Charlotte-born African-American artist known for his collages, many inspired by his life in the West Indies and Harlem, Romare Bearden Park is the largest urban park in Uptown Charlotte. Neighboring Concepts has designed the arbor trellis, kiosk and restroom facilities. These structures re-imagine a stroll in Paris’ gardens – honoring Bearden’s education at the Sorbonne – with the lively moods and raw juxtapositions of Bearden’s Jazz Age visual compositions.
